seen: 2026-10-30, mosaic, todarch cube (first build, lang-app-fe#100/#101), my to-dos on a phone and on a wide screen. selim: "you're showing the tiles, the cubes, the squares, by grouping them. and this, we don't do this in the cube design… those groupings that you're doing are actually the tiles that you're supposed to show." and of the wide screen grouped by projects: "it's the same violation. it's just in a different way, names."
picture: by states on a phone, by projects on a wide screen.
breaks: 6 (zoom is a change of distance), 24 (a face is a complete square: one screen held many small squares under headings), 29 (a cube opens on its shape: the values were written as headings, not shown as pieces), 2 (the cube is the viewfinder, not the data: turning the cube re-sorted the data under it), and the screen shape of 05-patterns.md.
why it feels wrong: a heading over a group of tiles is a folder: it puts one level (the values of a face) and the level inside it (the to-dos holding each value) on one screen at two distances. the values are pieces of their own. they already were tiles on the face seen from afar (states › in progress, to do, idea…), so on my to-dos they turned up a second time, as words. turning the cube moved the to-dos between headings, which made the face the turn landed on the master grouping for that moment: the look was used to sort, not to look. each group also became a small square of its own, so the screen was a list of squares, never one square.
how it follows (built at selim's ask the same evening):
- my to-dos is one complete square of the open to-dos with my own box last, never grouped. turning the cube on it only colours the cube by another face; the to-dos stay where they are.
- the journey to a value is by zooming: todarch › states (the face from afar, its values as tiles) › in progress (a level of its own,
f/states/in-progress: the to-dos holding it, one square, my own box adds one there) › a to-do. - picture after: my to-dos on a phone.
also seen: mosaic's cube design sub-app (its contributions cube) groups its tiles under the look it is turned to in the same way; not changed yet.
status: fixed, lang-app-fe claude/project-thread-gp8y6n (commit 4bd7cbd, PR linked in the contribution row).
