seen: 2026-10-30, cube design (this website, the first build of the violations as a cube in cube-design#3), the violations page on a phone. selim: "you have a different navigation system than the cube uses. so like the arrows that you have on the sides, that is a violation to cube design. that is a navigation system that we haven't decided, and i don't feel like it's a need at the moment. so we need to see what that navigation is doing and why we are not able to solve that with the principles that we agreed already."

breaks: 5 and 6 (no base case; zoom is a change of distance, not of kind), 17 (journey many is reached by going out to the whole cube and turning it, not by buttons on a face), and the principle that the interface never names or adds moves (the gestures are the moves).
why it feels wrong: the ‹ › buttons were a fourth way of getting around, next to zoom in, zoom out and the swipe, and the only one with buttons. what they did is look at the same pieces grouped another way. cube design already has a way to do that: a grouping is a piece too. "apps" is a piece of the violations cube; zooming into it shows its pieces (anlat, cubes, mosaic, cube design), and zooming into anlat shows the violations seen there. nothing new was needed, so the buttons were a navigation system invented on the spot, and the colour key under them was a legend explaining a picture, which a piece you can open does not need.
how it could follow: the kinds (apps, what happened to it) sit on the face beside the violations, with a folded corner because they have a cube inside (05-patterns.md). inside apps its values are the pieces, every one kept, the empty ones pale; inside a value, the violations that hold it, each opening close up. zoom out goes back the same way, one level at a time. the arrows, the key and the swipe that turned the cube are gone; so are the ‹ › links to the next piece at the bottom of every page, which were another way around that was never agreed. the home cube does the same with its kinds (layer, how settled, first reader).
status: fixed in cube-design#3 (merged 2026-10-30).
